Speaking to the media at Indira Bhavan here on Friday, Krishnaiah said that majority hand pumps were not functioning and bore-wells have dried up.

He also demanded the district administration to repair hand pumps and take necessary action for provide drinking water especially in rural areas. He suggested officials concerned to utilise railway and local water tankers for supplying drinking water.

There is a need to regulate water being supplied to Chennai city with drastic fall of water levels in Somasila and Kandaleru reservoirs, said Krishnaiah.

Farmers in the district have been facing difficulties as they were unable to sell the produce at reasonable price even though they had cultivated crops with debts, lamented the Congress leader. He said that the government had released Rs 5 crore out of Rs 1,100 crore under farm loan waiver scheme and released only Rs 3 crore towards input subsidy out of Rs 50 crore required for 2016-17.

He also demanded the state government to release rest of the funds at the earliest to save the farming community in the district. Congress leaders C V Sesha Reddy, Ch Deva Kumar Reddy, G Sivachary and others were present.
