Vizianagaram: New licensees’ got the permission to run liquor shops in their areas from July 1. The excise staff announced the names of the licensees by picking their names thorough draw of lots. On the other side, the excise department received Rs 21 crore through application fee from the thousands of applicants from 210 shops in the district.

Around 3,636 applications reached the excise department for 210 shops in the district. Some of the incumbents have dropped around 10 applications for various shops in their area. The officers conducted draw of lots in the presence of Joint Collector Srikesh Balaji and others on Friday and the process concluded by midnight on the same day.

Any how the government received around Rs 21.31 crore through application fee. The application fee was around Rs 55,000 to Rs 75,000 based on the range of the shop. Interestingly, the income they received from the previous years (2015-17) was only Rs10 crore through application fee, but now it doubled. A shop in Makkuva mandal, which can be said as remote mandal in this district, received 69 applications.

This is the shop which received highest applications in this district. A shop in Seethanagaram mandal received only one application. The excise department will get another Rs 25 crore through lilence fee from all the 210 licensees’. Deputy commissioner Nagalakshmi, superintendent A Sambhuprasad and others organized the entire process and concluded in smooth manner.
