Vijayawada: Pulse Polio Immunisation programme was conducted under the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation limits on Sunday. Staff deputed for the Pulse Polio Immunisation duty administered polio drops to 1,36,904 children below five years of age in the city.

In all, 38 route officers were deployed to supervise the proceedings and 1,795 were deployed at the 382 Polio Immunisation Centres in the city. Pulse Polio Centres were also set up at Vijayawada railway station, bus stand and Kanaka Durga temple. The Polio Immunisation programme was started with the local corporators administering polio drops to children in different colonies of the city.

MLC Buddha Venkanna administered polio drops to kids at Rajasthan High School, Arjun Street, I Town.Deputy Mayor G Venkata Ramana took part in the polio camp at MK Baig School, Ajit Singh Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, he said that he is looking forward for polio-free society.

He said that all the parents should feel the responsibility to administer polio drops to their children below five years. He informed that special arrangements were made at thickly populated areas in the city.

VMC Chief Medical Officer Dr Gopi Naik, assistant medical officer Dr Babu Srinivas, Dr Iqbal Hussain, Dr Rama Venkateswara Rao, doctors, health officers and various nursing students and others participated in the polio camps.
