Eluru: West Godavari, the stronghold of ruling Telugu Desam Party, has got three berths in the rejigg of Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, after a gap of three decades. West Godavari, the rice-bowl of Andhra Pradesh, consisting of 15 Assembly constituencies has elected 14 TDP members and one BJP member during 2014 Assembly elections.
Several times, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has claimed that he was very much thankful for the district, as it received the Telugu Desam party and its ally BJP during the assembly elections. In his first Cabinet during 2014, he gave two minister posts to the district. One is for TDP ally BJP.
Highlights:
- The CM who has been thankful to the district for electing 14 TDP MLAs has been finally rewarded the district with top posts
- Also for the first time BJP, an ally to TDP, member is holding a ministerial post from the district
The TDP MLA of Chintalapudi constituency Peethala Sujatha got the berth in the first cabinet and Tadepalligudem MLA Pydikondala Manikyala Rao also got the post as TDP ally. Both ministers continued, until the reshuffle of the state cabinet on Sunday. However, the CM dropped Peethala Sujatha but BJP member Pydikondala Manikyala Rao stays back.
Besides Manikyala Rao, the Chief Minister inducted the Kovvuru MLA KS Jawahar and Achanta MLA Pitani Satyanarayana in the cabinet. With this, the West Godavari district got three ministries. The political circles which speculated ministry to a minority or a tribe in the new cabinet have failed to assess the inclusion of Kovvuru and Achanta MLAs in the cabinet. This move has created a big surprise to the TDP circles also.
West Godavari district, which now got three ministries, has earlier also got three berths in the cabinet of the then Chief Minister Late N T Rama Rao. NT Rama Rao during 1988-89 has inducted three members into his cabinet. The Upland senior Leader and Chintalapudi MLA Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao, Undi MLA Kalidindi Abbairaju and Eluru MLA Maradani Rangarao got the berths in the NTR’s Cabinet.
This is the second time and first of TDP cabinet to get three berths to the district. In 1980’s the district also witnessed three Ministers from the district during during T Anjaiah’s jumbo cabinet got three posts including Kantheti Satyanarayana Raju, Indukuri Ramakrishnam Raju and MA Azeez got the berths in the Anjaiah’s cabinet.
Again in the third term of TDP rule, the West Godavari got the three minister posts. However, one was of BJP, which is first in the history of the district to get a BJP MLA and getting a minister post.
