Atmakuru: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has found fault with six government departments for not utilising Rs 531.78 crore in Kurnool district during 2016-17.

The unutilised funds will be reverted to the Centre. The state government paid Rs 4.97 crore additionally to contractors executing Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti project phase-2 sixth and 10th package works stretching deadline for completing them. The CAG detected that making additional payments for tunnel and approach channel works.

The funds remained unspent – Rs 193 crore – and are being withdrawn. Rs 3.05 crore allocated to the Tungabhadra board, Rs 7.61 crore of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan which failed to build at least one class room with the funds, Rs 30.12 crore given to agriculture and horticulture departments and Rs 300 crore devolved on Panchayat Raj department should be returned to the Centre.

The officials failed to give proper replies to the CAG why the funds could not be spent. Officials who blame the 2017-18 budget for meagre allocations owe an explanation to their superiors why the funds could not be spent during the fiscal year 2016-17.
