ENC to plant 50,000 trees in city , Navy organises beach clean-up drive

Visakhapatnam: The Flag Officer and Commander-in-Chief , Eastern Naval Command, Vice-Admiral, HCS Bisht, said the command will plant 50,000 trees as a part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

He announced this during a massive beach clean-up drive observed by the Eastern Naval Command all along the beaches and waterfronts of the city, including Rama Krishna Beach, Tenneti Park, Yarada, Rushikonda and Kalinga on Sunday. The clean-up drive organized as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of ENC was kick started by Vice-Admiral HCS Bisht.

In all, 4,000 naval personnel, including defence civilians, their families, Indian Coast Guard personnel and cadets from NCC and SCC, took part in the drive. District Collector Pravin Kumar, Commissioner of Police T Yoganand and other dignitaries also participated in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Admiral Bisht thanked the participants for their concern and efforts in the clean-up drive. He also complimented the district administration, GVMC and citizens for coming forward for the noble cause in making Visakhapatnam a clean and green city.

As a part of tree plantation drive, 50 trees were planted at Gokul Park on the Beach Road and inside Naval Coast Battery.
The beach clean-up drive has gained importance in the city for last few years due to infrastructural development and exponential rise in the field of industrialisation which has directly affected environment.
