GVMC sanctions 25 crores for Summer Action Plan in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) chalked out summer action contingency plan to streamline the water supply and take preventive measures for communicable diseases.

Commissioner of the GVMC M Harinarayanan, who presided over the meeting told the officials that an amount of Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for taking up repairs to the water pipelines and other works.“People, particularly those living in the slums, should not be put into inconvenience due to shortage of drinking water,”

he told the officials present in the meeting.He ordered the officials that all borewells and domestic supply pipelines should be in order and repaired immediately to avoid any inconvenience to the people.The commissioner told the water supply superintendent engineer K Ananda Rao to appoint an employee, who will receive calls from the public regarding interruption of water supply.

The commissioner suggested that campaign should be launched on water conservation, sun stroke and the prevent measures and other health precautions through the available media.He asked the commissioners of all the four zones, executive engineers of water supply to keep themselves informed about the water supply system and be available for the people to receive complaints.

Additional commissioner GVS Murthy, chief engineer B Jayram Reddy, executive engineers and officials of water supply and medical officers were present in the meeting.
