Speaking on this occasion, he accused the government of neglecting farmers; as a result they are incurring heavy losses. “The chilli price has fallen from Rs16,000 per quintal to Rs 8,000 per quintal, due to lack of demand,” he noted. He said that India is producing 36 per cent of chilli in the world and stressed on need to ensure a better price to the farmers.

AP Rytu Sangam general secretary KVVP Prasad lamented that the district has turned as a hub for spurious seeds and pesticides. “Farmers, who use fake seeds and pesticides are suffering heavy losses,” he stated. He reminded that the officials seized spurious chilli power stocks in the district and demanded the government take steps to check sale of fake seeds.

“The mirchi yard officials are taking four to five days to purchase chilli stock. The government should take steps to purchase chillis through Markfed,” he averred.Guntur Mirchi Yard chairman Mannava Subba Rao said that the government began an exercise to purchase chillis through Markfed. CPI district secretary Jangala Ajay Kumar and TDP state leader Lal Vazeer were also present.
