Rajiv Gandhi wholesale vegetable market located near VMC office gets 20 to 25 truck loads of vegetables from other districts and states every day. But, due to the strike the imports decreased to 15 to 18 truck loads and may further come down, if the strike continues.Tomatoes are imported from north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Chittoor and Odisha.

Potatoes from Agra and cabbage, carrot and other veggies are imported from Karnataka, Hyderabad etc.Truck operators, who are supporting the strike are obstructing the vehicles on the national highways in other districts and other states and preventing the vehicles moving towards Vijayawada.

Consequently, the trucks coming from long distance areas are facing difficulties.D Nageswara Rao a wholesale vegetable trader said so far there is no severe shortage of vegetables in the city but problems may arise, if the strike continues some more days. He said brinjal, ladies finger, cucumber, chilly and other vegetables come from Guntur, Prakasam and other districts. Vegetable leaves come from delta area of Krishna district.

Rajiv Gandhi wholesale vegetables market is the biggest in the city. Hundreds of traders, hoteliers depend on the market to buy vegetables. Rytu Bazaars too import some trucks of vegetables from other districts and states.Some truck operators, are however, are liberal and allowing the trucks carrying milk, vegetables, flowers to city.

So far, the wholesale flowers market located near the VMC main office has no problem and getting wide variety of flowers from other districts and states. The traders said if the strike continues some more days, flower imports will drastically come down which leads to increase of flowers prices.
