Tirupati: Former Union Minister and Congress leader Chinta Mohan has demanded the state government to affiliate Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) Super Specialty Hospital to the TTD. He led a massive dharna for two hours in front of SVIMS Director office here on Monday, in which local party workers took part with placards.

Addressing the party workers, the former MP alleged that state government gradually decreasing the allocation of funds to the SVIMS. He stated that the SVIMS is the only super specialty hospital for poor in the entire state after post bifurcation. Chinta Mohan said that the Congress-led UPA government had sanctioned Rs 60 crore for hospital development.

“But, the SVIMS turned into a commercial institution in the TDP rule, even though the TTD is helping SVIMS financially every year,” he alleged. The Congress leader pointed out that the SVIMS is not providing free medical aid to poor. “In 2014, the TTD trust board took a decision to provide free medical service to poor at SVIMS.

But, the decision was not implemented by present hospital administration till now,” former MP stated. He further said that salaries for outsourcing staff are very less as they are paid Rs 4,000 to 8,000 per month. He demanded the government to increase the salaries of paramedical staff and technicians to Rs 30,000 per month.

He asked the government to provide 100 per cent free medical service to poorest of the poor as early as possible.The Congress leaders Dr Battaiah Naidu, P Prabakar, Gopal Yadav, Savithri, Munilakshmi, Tejovathi and Kavitha were present.
