Kakinada: East Godavari Collector H. Arun Kumar said that in all, 14 seasonal schools have been started at various places in the district to cater to the needs of wards of migrant labourers including the fisher folk who opt for seasonal fishing at different places as part of their livelihood.

Participating in the weekly review meet at collectorate on Monday he said that each of these schools would enroll 50 children for the conduct of classes up to fifth. The collector also reviewed the arrangements during the two month canal closure period for drinking water from April 10.

In this connection the collector directed RWS, municipal water supply authorities to maintain sufficient quantity of water in water tanks in rural sector and at storage points in municipalities to cater to the needs of the two month period. The collector on this occasion asked the district officials to prepare comprehensive and detailed reports for the works to be taken up in the current financial year 2017-18.

At the same time third party verification would be conducted for the works taken up during 2015- 16 and 2016-2017 financial years for quality verification he said. Arun Kumar also called upon the Panchayat Raj and other stake holder departments to initiate measures to make all the 1,069 panchayats as open defecation free villages by August 15. Joint collector S. Satyanarayana, JC-2, Radhakrishna Murty and heads of various departments participated.
