Panchayat Raj and Rural Development (PR & RD) commissioner B Ramanjaneyulu claimed that the state stood first payment of wages for works besides four of the 13 parameters in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the year 2016 -17 and spent Rs 5,715 crore up to March 31.
Vijayawada: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development (PR & RD) commissioner B Ramanjaneyulu claimed that the state stood first payment of wages for works besides four of the 13 parameters in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the year 2016 -17 and spent Rs 5,715 crore up to March 31.

Addressing media conference at his office, here on Tuesday, the PR & RD commissioner said MGNREGS expenditure is gradually increasing. “An average of 52.83 working days per family is created and 39.44 lakh families got employment under the MGNREGS,” he added.
Ramanjaneyulu informed that the state government has sanctioned Rs1,800 crore as a loan especially for MGNREGS to resolve the issue of delay in payment of wages. “For the first time this type of loan is incorporated in the budget,” he added.
He pointed out due to lack of funds several states are not paying the wages since two months.
“But with the newly created gap fund, the state government paid wages to all workers,” he stated.The commissioner noted that the state stood first in timely payment of wages payment with 90.2 per cent while Manipur (85.2) and Telangana (84.5) stood in second and third places respectively.
“Similarly AP stood in first in material component (Rs 2,443 crore), farm pond (3.11 lakh), individual household latrine (2.10 lakh) and vermi compost pits (1.19 lakh). Families completed 100 working days Tamil Nadu (10.43 lakh), Andhra Pradesh (6.41 lakh) and Rajasthan (3.79 lakh) respectively,” he added.
He informed that state was well ahead in construction of anganwadi buildings, providing employment to women, tree plantation, wage payment and providing employment to families. Joint commissioner G Balasubramanyam and others were also present.
