Team of experts to assess embankment in Penugonda
Minister for labour and employment Pithani Satyanarayana said that the right embankment of the river Vasishta Godavari will be strengthened at a cost of Rs.42 crore. The Minister visited the Right Bund of River Vasistha, which was sagging repeatedly at Dongaravipalem village of Penugonda mandal on Tuesday evening.
Penugonda (West Godavari): Minister for labour and employment Pithani Satyanarayana said that the right embankment of the river Vasishta Godavari will be strengthened at a cost of Rs.42 crore. The Minister visited the Right Bund of River Vasistha, which was sagging repeatedly at Dongaravipalem village of Penugonda mandal on Tuesday evening.
He inspected the river bund at various places.Talking to media, the Minister said bund erosion was witnessed in recent times. The embankment of the river at Dongaravipalem sagged due to heavy floods three times earlier, he pointed out and in 2012 the government had taken steps to strengthen the bunds on a permanent basis.
In 2017 January again the bund is now again sliding into the river.The Minister said that soon the government will take the advice of the expert team and within one week the expert's committee will visit this area, he added. He said that a pitching platform will be constructed up to 1,300 meters length embankment at Pendyala, Dongaravipalem and Poduru villages.
He said that a lift irrigation scheme was working on the river bund at Dongaravipalem and people should not fear about the safety of the embankment, he suggested. He said the Dongaravipalem will be developed as Tourism centre by constructing restaurants, gardens, parking lots on the river bund.
