Three degree colleges in the city secured ranks among the top 100 degree colleges in the country. A survey was conducted by National Institute of Ranking Frame work (NIRF) under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resources, disclosed that the three colleges from the city has good infrastructure, faculty, courses and imparting quality education to the students.

Vijayawada: Three degree colleges in the city secured ranks among the top 100 degree colleges in the country. A survey was conducted by National Institute of Ranking Frame work (NIRF) under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resources, disclosed that the three colleges from the city has good infrastructure, faculty, courses and imparting quality education to the students.

Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala (SMK) secured 79th rank, Andhra Loyola College bagged 24th rank and KBN College got 92nd rank among top 100 degree colleges in the country.SMK ranked first in the state in the women’s degree college category, said SMK principal Dr T Vijaya Lakshmi.

She said that 10 institutions were selected from the state by the NIRG survey. She said that the survey was conducted by NIRF based on the performance of teaching and non-teaching activities of the past three years. The college got autonomous status in 2003 and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has declared Grade A to the college in the year 2013.Later, it was given the status of ‘College with potential for excellence’ (CPE) in the city.

The principal said that for the past two years, 10 students of the college received Prathiba Awards announced by the state government. She informed that the college cultural department won nine national awards and 10 state awards in the past two years in folk,

classical dance and singing competitions ‘Yuvajanotsava’ organised by the Association of Indian University (AIU) under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India.She proudly said that SMK is the only college in the state which got the opportunity to perform at the festival of TANA Conference after getting selected thrice by the South Asian Universities (SAUFEST) Yuvajanotsava.

They were subsequently invited by Telugu Association of North America (TANA) and the students went to United States of America and performed at the festival of TANA. Andhra Loyola College (ALC), one of the famous and oldest reputed colleges in the state, was ranked 24th.

ALC bagged the best degree college for the best infrastructure, quality education, training, courses, research, awarding degrees, authenticity, community service, improved services and so on.The college has 18 various branches offering 29 different courses and imparting quality education for over seven decades.

The college is spread in 100 acres. Kakaraparthi Bhava Narayana (KBN) College in the city ranked 92nd. The college has introduced many socio-development and awareness courses in the college. The college has secured B-plus grade from NAAC. In 2014, it has secured A-plus grade from NAAC.

The college has women empowerment department, sports department and cultural department, a wing for mproving teaching skills of the lecturers, research and monitoring cell. The college has introduced diploma in print technology course for the first time and PG diploma in e-Banking and B Com (Logistics).
