Kurnool: Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy gave a call to follow the footsteps of former Deputy Prime Minister of India Babu Jagjivan Ram, on the occasion of his 110th birth anniversary. Krishnamurthy participated in celebrations organised at Railway Station Road Circle here on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister said Jagjivan Ram had faced several struggles from his childhood. As a Central Minister, he had extended selfless service to the country for more than five decades, he added. He had created several job opportunities while he was Union Railway Minister, recalled Murthy. KEK said the state government is also implementing several welfare schemes for Dalits and tribals.

“The TDP government has allocated funds for taking up developmental works in SC and ST Colonies,” he added. The Deputy CM stated that government has sanctioned Rs 3,692 crore for social welfare and Rs 10,000 crore for strengthening Dalits. He assured of forwarding proposals to the government for the construction of Jagjivan Ram’s Bhavan with a cost of Rs 2 crore.
Kurnool MP Butta Renuka said that she will impress upon the Centre for setting up industries in the district.

Around 90 per cent of problems can be resolved if factories were set up, she added. District Collector Ch Vijay Mohan said Babu Jagjivan Ram was instrumental in implementation of 9 labour laws. On the occasion of Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birth anniversary, the DRDA distributed Rs 50.23 crore to 2015 SHGs and MEPMA department Rs 5 crore to 168 SHGs.

Prior to the meeting, Krishnamurthy, MP TG Venkatesh, MLA SV Mohan Reddy, former Minister M Mareppa, former MLA Sudhakar Babu, SP Ake Ravi Krishna and others garlanded the statue of Jagjivan Ram at RS Road Circle. Former Mayor Bangi Anantaiah and others spoke on the occasion.
