Man attacked for demanding loan repayment

Nellore: A man attacked a lender with acid for demanding repayment of the loan at Podalakur village in the district.
The victim has been shifted to a hospital in Chennai. Though the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, it came to light on Wednesday.

According to sources, a person from Giddaluru had taken some money from Malapati Obul Reddy of Mudigedu village in Podalakur madnal as a hand loan. But, he has not been repaying the money despite repeated demands from Obul Reddy.

When vexed Obul Reddy strongly warned the borrower to repay the loan, the borrower, whose name is yet to be ascertained, called him up on Tuesday and asked him to collect the money at Pottella Vagu which is close to Podalakur located on Manubole road in the evening.As soon as Obul Reddy had reached to the spot, four people reportedly attacked him with acid besides bashing him up before fleeing from the scene.

Passersby who noticed the injured Obul Reddy rushed him to a private hospital in Podalakur and subsequently to Nellore and later to Chennai for better treatment. According to sources, Obul Reddy’s suspected affair with a woman from the village might also have been the motive for the attack.

Police are reportedly took one Chidadala Penchalaiah, his brother into custody and questioning them in connection with the case.
