Purandeswari labels naidu ministry as CABINET OF TURNCOATS

Vijayawada: A letter mailed by BJP leader and former Union minister Purandeswari to party president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi resenting the induction of defected MLAs into the Cabinet by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu caused flutters in the ruling TDP-BJP alliance camp.

Purandeswari, who was in hibernation for quite some time, shot into the limelight by releasing copies of her letter at a media conference in Prakasam recently. The letter made Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu and state BJP president Kambhampati Hari Babu open their mouth on the issue setting aside the alliance compulsions.

The letter of Purandeswari, sister-in-law of Chandrababu and known as a vocal critic of his government, obviously drew wild reactions from the TDP. Minister for Information and Public Relations Kalva Srinivasulu and MLC Buddha Venkanna rebutted her remarks. “When she defected from the Congress after having served as a Union minister, she did not have any moral ground to talk of defections,” they shot back at different media interactions.

It may be recalled that Naidu has inducted four defected YSRCP MLAs into his Cabinet a few days ago, drawing adverse reactions from the Opposition parties. Replying to the pointed questions, Haribabu at a media conference in the city on Tuesday said the BJP is always committed to uphold morality in politics by effectively implementing the anti-defection law.

However, sources in both the parties refuse to view these adverse reactions on defections as a sign of distancing themselves from alliance. A BJP leader told The Hans India that the party national leadership gave a clear policy direction as per which the party has to grow within the realm of alliance with the TDP only.

Purandeswari’s perceived anti-TDP bitterness is rooted in her alleged uprooting from her Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency as a result of powerful lobbies in the TDP that worked against her. Incidentally, she nursed Visakhapatnam as a Union minister from the UPA government. After she joined the BJP, she was forced to contest from the little known Rajampeta constituency and lost the election in 2014 for want of cooperation from the ally.
