The officials are confident earning more revenue despite state government imposing new restrictions and increasing the caution deposit amount. According to new rules, liquor shops should not be set up close to schools and religious places and on either side of national and state highways.

Moreover, the Excise officials are expecting the sale of liquor will go up abnormally in 2019 as the general elections will be held in the same year. However, a higher official of the Excise department told The Hans India on the condition of anonymity said that the 2019 will be crucial year for the Excise department as there will be surge in liquor sales during election year.


It is learnt that liquor syndicates had grabbed as many as liquor shops in the name of benamis for opening more belt shops in the district. According to the sources, liquor syndicates are conducting auctions unofficially for setting up on an average 4 belt shops in each village.

The political leaders had ensured that licences of liquor shops to their followers as they don’t want to depend on others for supplying liquor during elections. Even, women, who were in the forefront demanding total ban on arrack and liquor sales, have submitted applications seeking licences for liquor shops.

According to the sources, 10 women from the total of 50 have secured licences in the auction for liquor shops. It reveals the change in mind set of women, who rather turned insensitive towards sale of liquor.
