Thousands throng Bhadradri as Rama takes vows with Sita

Braving heat, thousands of devotees from across the country on Wednesday witnessed the celestial wedding of Lord Rama with his consort Sita, held in the temple town on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami.The rituals associated with the celestial wedding were performed by priests from 12.18 pm at Mithila Stadium.

Devotees from across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other neighbouring states thronged the venue and offered Muthyala Talambralu (a mixture of pearls and rice mixed with turmeric and saffron).Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari and Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy offered Muthyala Talambralu and silk clothes to the deities on behalf of the State government, in line with the long tradition.

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and other politicians and their family members attended the celestial wedding. Bhadrachalam, the abode of Lord Rama on the banks of Godavari River, was decked up for the annual event.

The venue of the celestial wedding and adjoining Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple were illuminated as devotees flocked the town since Tuesday. The temple authorities made large-scale arrangements for the devotees. Tickets with a price range from Rs 100 to Rs 5,000 were sold for the event.

Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has operated more than 500 buses from all parts of the state and Andhra Pradesh for the devotees. South Central Railway also operated a special train between Secunderabad and Bhadrachalam to clear the extra rush of passengers.

State Minister Tummala Nageswar Rao, TRICOR Chairman Thati Venkateshwarlu, SC Corporation Chairman Pidamarti Ravi, MLCs Balasani Lakshminarayana, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, MLAs Sunnam Rajayya, Former TTD Chairman K Bapi Raju, MP Ajmira Sitaram Naik and Khammam ZP Chairperson Gadipelli Kavita also witnessed the wedding.

District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu, SP Ambar Kishore Jha, Khammam Additional SP Saikrishna, ASPs Ramakrishna Hedge, Sunil Dutt, Bhadrachalam RDO Sivanarayana Reddy and Bhadrachalam Devasthanam EO T Ramesh Babu were also present.

Telangana Director-General of Police Anurag Sharma, Intelligence DIG Prabhakar Rao, Warangal North Zone IGP Nagi Reddy, Endowments Commissioner Sivashankar supervised the security arrangements.
