Tirupati: SVRR Government General Hospital, popularly known as Ruia Hospital, will soon have a new laboratory to implement viral load testing for monitoring anti-retroviral treatment for early diagnosis of treatment failure which will be helpful for HIV patients.

This will be established under national policy on ‘Test and Treat’ by the ‘Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) an US-based institute having its office in New Delhi is partnering with National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) to strategise the national Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) roll out.

The Consul General in Hyderabad, Katherine Hadda, who visited the Ruia Hospital Blood Bank here on Wednesday, said that 70 new viral load labs will be established across the country and Ruia Hospital is one among them. This test gives the information on how well the ART is controlling the virus.

She said that it will help reach out to an increasing number of blood bank staff, in the shortest possible time. She also made it clear that the HIV State Reference Lab at the SV Medical College will continue to receive technical assistance under this collaboration in order to improve the quality of lab testing and work towards ISO accreditation.
