B.Pharmacy student Ayesha Meera, was found murdered under suspicious condition in a hostel at Ibrahimpatnam near here on December 27, 2007. The main accused in the case P Satyam Babu was acquitted by the High Court this week after eight years of incarceration.
During the course investigation, Ayesha’s parents accused the police of deliberately diverting the case by making Satyam Babu the accused in order to shield some Congress leaders who were involved in the case.
During his meeting with the victim’s mother, the Chief Minister expressed his anguish by recalling the incident and assured a comprehensive probe.
AP Women Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari, speaking to the media persons, said that the commission would take up the case and ensure justice is done to the victim’s parents. She said the commission also would collect evidence by inquiring the case, she said, and recalled that they fought for justice along with family members of Ayesha Meera in the past.
Expressing hope that justice could be done by the government in the wake of the Chief Minister’s assurance, Ayesha Meera’s mother Shamshad Begum called for punishment to real culprits in the case.Muslim United Front president Habeebur Rehman demanded that the government should constitute a special team to investigate the case. He said culprits should be meted out with exemplary punishment to deter recurrence of such crimes.
