Vijayawada: Urban tahsildar R Shiva Rao said students studying in various schools, junior colleges, degree colleges and engineering colleges will get caste certificate through the school or college concerned.Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, he said that SC /ST /BC and other students would get their caste certificate at the school/college where they study by furnishing their details.

"Earlier, the SC /ST /BC and other students would have to go to the Mee Seva Centres to get the caste certificate. The students have to wait for long time to get their turn at the centres. These centres are always flooded with customers as the centres take up various government related activities. Revenue, registrations and stamps, municipal administration, political civil supplies, social welfare, health school education and many more activities have been taken up at the Mee Seva centres," he added.

Shiva Rao disclosed that there are around 175 educational institutions under the city limits. About 20 Village Revenue Officers (VROs) were deputed to take up the job to provide caste certificates to the SC/ST/BC and other students. He said that the VROs would go to all the institutions and would give the application forms to the principal of the colleges.

The school/college would depute a teacher/lecturer to coordinate with the students to obtain the certificate. The application should be duly filled by the students along with a proof of old caste certificate and a copy of Aadhaar card.
He said that the application forms would be collected from the college coordinator and would be processed at the revenue department office.

In four days, the caste certificate would be sent to the college and the students could collect their certificates from their colleges, he added. He further stated that all the schools and colleges in the city would be covered in a week by the VROs deputed for this work. He added that only schools and engineering colleges were functioning at present and most of the degree colleges were closed after the annual examinations. He added that this would help students in obtaining their caste certificates easily.
