Tirupati: Buoyed with Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) securing 42nd rank at national-level, the university is looking forward to develop the standards in research, teaching and students skill development on par with international standards. The SVU got 42nd rank as against 63rd rank (previous year) in the rankings given under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) which were announced recently.

Speaking to The Hans India, SVU Vice-Chancellor (VC) A Damodaram said his aim is to develop the SVU as a world class holistic approach higher education centre. “Admissions had increased in the academic year 2016-17 compared to the previous in the SVU but compared to other private universities, the SVU lacks effective propagation of its achievements,

” he added. The V-C exuded confidence of creating excellent international standard infrastructure for higher learning in the SVU so that students can have all round development. Asked about SVU securing better rank in NIRF rankings, the V-C said the university has improved its performance in teaching, research, development, submission of quality papers and extracurricular activities after he took over as V-C in 2015.

“Earlier, the SVU officials did not apply for any national rankings. But, I took a decision to apply for it after studying merits and demerits of the university,” he revealed. On varsity development front, Damodaram said several new directorates and dean posts were created for academic, teaching and research in SVU. Newly created directorates have to undergo quality audit.

Creating posts of deans for international relations, industries interaction and placement, career counseling, women empowerment cell have yielded results, he said. Asked about new future projects of university, the V-C stated the SVU will apply for national accreditation renewal in April. On collaborations front, the V-C stated advanced lab research centre of Siemens will be inaugurated at SVU Engineering College in a week’s time.

“The SVU inked MoU with Carnegie Mellon University, USA to start Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) course next year,” he added. He further said 15% quota for NRI students earmarked in admissions from the academic year 2017-18 for fund raising and attracting overseas students to the university. “Our priority is to focus on improving quality of research and creating a brand image at international-level,” Damodaram stated.
