The police took Chittoor YSRCP convenor into house custody in order to hold the election process in a peaceful manner. It may be stated here that polling for 36 ward in Chittoor Municipal Corporation commenced on Sunday by 7am amidst high police security. More than 160 police personnel were deployed for the poll while two DSPs, CIs, SIs and ASIs also took part in the security measures.

Speaking to press persons, Chevi Reddy Bhaskara Reddy said that the police have taken them in to their custody for no fault at their end “ We are on our way to Bengaluru from Tirupati . We dropped at Chittoor to meet our party men. Without hearing our explanation, the police have acted inhumanly, violating our fundamental rights at the instigation of the ruling TDP. We are the elected representatives of the district. We are not rowdy sheeters .

Our fundamental right is curbed by the police and the TDP big wigs “he lashed out. He cautioned that he would raise the police act in the floor of the Assembly shortly. YSRCP Chittoor convenor alleged that TDP resorted to violation of election code deliberately at the behest of the police.

Though rigging was going on the polling booth by the TDP activists, he decried that police have just remained as spectators allowing the TDP men for rigging. In view of the violations of the election code and abnormalities evidenced during the polling, he demanded the Assistant Returning Officer of the election to suspend the election and conduct the poll in a free atmosphere.

Mean while Chittoor DSP Lakshminaidu said that no untoward incident has been reported during the polling held for 38 ward on Sunday. He made it clear that the police did not arrest the YSRCP legislators but resisted their efforts to enter into the polling booths or polling premises as per the election code. He defended that no highhandedness of the police has been resorted as alleged by the YSRCP legislators.
