The annual function recognises the accomplishment of the ‘Sword Arm’ of Eastern Naval Command over the past one year.

Vice Admiral H C S Bisht, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command was the chief guest at the event which was hosted by Rear Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. INS Gharial was adjudged the ‘Most Spirited Ship’.

The event was organised to appreciate valuable contribution and excellence of individual ships and the proud men in white, who kept constant vigil from the farthest corners of distant oceans to the waters close home. During the event, the Fleet Operations Officer presented the annual report of activities and achievements of the fleet over the past year which witnessed intense action spanning the entire spectrum of maritime operations.

Year 2016 was marked with relentless tempo of operations, exercises and prolonged deployment of Eastern Fleet ships with footprint ranging as far as South China Sea, Central Pacific Region and Gulf of Aden. The Eastern Fleet participated in several major multilateral exercises such as MALABAR-16, RlMPAC-16 and bilateral exercises like SlMBEX-16 and lNDRA-16 with friendly foreign navies from across the globe.

The maiden annual joint disaster management exercise named Prakampana coordinated by the Eastern Fleet in sakhapatnam in August was another significant milestone for ENC which saw close functioning and cooperation between the Indian Navy and the civil administration.

A total of 16 trophies, acknowledging outstanding and exceptional performance over varied dimensions of maritime operations leading to their combat efficiency were awarded to various ships. While INS Gharial was adjudged the ‘Most Spirited Ship’, INS Kirch was awarded the ‘Best Ship’ amongst corvettes and others. The ‘Best Ship’ trophy for capital ships was bagged by INS Satpura. The event also showcased an enthralling entertainment program by in-house talent of the Eastern Fleet.
