Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed the officials to involve students and voluntary organisations in the movement.Participating in a tele conference on Neeru-Pragathi, he asked the officials to create awareness among the people on the importance of water conservation.

The government would organise Jala Samrakshana movement from April 15 to July 15 for three months, he informed.Naidu appealed public to take up water conservation as a social responsibility. He hoped the state would lead the country in water conservation. “Nearly 25 per cent growth is possible in agriculture sector from conserving water,” he said and suggested to the officials to conduct Jala Samrakshana programme as practical model for civil engineering students.

The officials were instructed to make district-wise plans and implement the same. “The state tops the country by digging over three lakh farm ponds,” he claimed and directed the officials to complete another one lakh farm ponds as per the plan.Meanwhile, the chief secretary Dinesh Kumar asked the officials to speed up the housing scheme works. The officials were suggested to ready cement and iron for constructing four lakh houses, which were allotted to the state.

Especially the slab works in housing scheme should be taken up before the forthcoming rainy season, he instructed. He said the state is in second position after West Bengal in using employment guarantee scheme funds. Panchayat raj commissioner Ramanjaneyulu, water resources engineer-in-chief Venkateswara Rao, MLA K Ravi Kumar and others officials were also present.
