Stagnation of water has spoiled the water with fungus and waste seen along the riverfront between Punnami Ghat and Bhavani Ghat. G Sneha, a mother of two who came here to enjoy with children find the premises unclean. To her astonishment, the activity at the ghat was dull. She said the steps at ghats turned slippery with formation of fungus.

“I advised my son and daughter not to take a dip here even though water level is shallow. My children also echoed the same sentiment that they would catch skin diseases if they take a dip in the river,” she said An official of the APTDC said that ongoing construction of flyover at Durga Temple was another reason for the fall in number of visitors. “The road is closed at Kummaripalem.

Everybody who likes to visit the Berm Park or Punnami Ghat should come via KR Market, Tunnel and Workshop road,” he added.A couple, T Krishna and J Madhavi, who have plans for their marriage soon, is also disappointed by the situation prevailed at the park. “Even though it is summer, we cannot see crowd of visitors. Except for food and boating there is nothing to enjoy here,” they complain.

Meanwhile, the water level in Krishna has dipped by six feet spoiling water sporting activity. Though the boat ride is offered officially by the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), three private firms are also in the activity of water sports and boating between Punnami Ghat and Bhavani Island.
