Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Chamber (APPRC) President YVB Rajendra Prasad said that the devolution of funds from the central government to the local bodies was not taking place after the 14th Finance Commission submitted its report. Due to this, the position of ZPTCs, MPTCs and MPPs has reached from bad to worse.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, he urged the central government to start distributing the funds sanctioned by 14th Finance Commission. If that is not possible, at least, they should allocate special funds for the local bodies.

Rajendra Prasad said that they are giving a call for Chalo Delhi during the monsoon session of Parliament in June to put pressure on the central government. Up to 13th Finance Commission, local bodies used to get the central funds, he added. The 14th Finance Commission presided by YV Reddy did not recommend for the devolution of funds, he stated.

All the funds, duties and powers should be given to the ZPTCs, MPTCs and MPPs immediately. He also said that they will soon meet Panchayat Raj Minister Nara Lokesh to bring these issues to his notice and also congratulate him on becoming the Minister. He urged Lokesh to take initiative and render justice to them. To a question, he said that the APPRC prefers three-tier system instead of five-tier system in Panchayat Raj structure.
