Visakhapatnam: The fifth graduation ceremony of GITAM Centre for Distance Learning (CDL) will be conducted on April 14 for the outgoing students of May 2014, December 2014, May 2015, December 2015 and May 2016.Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, GITAM University Vice-Chancellor Prof M S Prasada Rao informed that as many as 1,369 students of various academic programmes will be attending the Graduation ceremony for which the Advisor of Department of Bio-technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr S R Rao will be the chief guest.

He said that gold medals will also be presented to the toppers of MA (English), MA (Economics), M Com, MBA (General) and MBA (HRM). The Vice-Chancellor claimed that the enrollment of the CDL has reached 58,500 as on March 31 this year as the GITAM University has been focusing mainly to bring higher education to the doorsteps of larger rural population at lesser cost.

The day to day operations from the stage of admissions to the evaluation are all totally computerised and a student portal is created in the CDL website for giving student-support services. Gitam Registrar Prof M Potharaju informed that personal details like address, socio-economic background, marital status, employment details, previous academic record, payment of fee, due dates, reminders, status of assignment submission, evaluation and results are helping the students.

GITAM CDL Director Prof T Srinivas said that all programmes were recognised by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB), UGC, New Delhi and the recognition for the years 2016-17 and 2017-18 was also obtained to offer PG, UG, PG Diploma and Diploma programmes.To a question, he mentioned that candidates with the GITAM CDL degrees are eligible for State and Central government jobs or for pursing higher education.
