Atmakur (Kurnool): Even 40 days after Krishna flood water receding, the Endowments department officials are yet to commence rebuilding of the famed Sangameswara temple and five other temples ancillary to it. It may be recalled that District Collector Ch Vijaya Mohan sanctioned Rs 90.50 lakh on account of Pushkarams to River Krishna for giving facelift to
the Sangameswara temple and the temples of Lord Suryanarayana Swamy, Goddess Gayatri, Lord Vajralingeswara, Lord Mrutyunjaya temple and Chitikela Anjaneya Swamy. The amount should be used for some other relevant works like construction of a Rajagopuram. Last year, the officials have pulled down the ancillary temples with a view readying them for Krishna Pushkarams. Target set for them to make the temple ready was August 12.

Meanwhile, the River Krishna was in spate submerging the Sangameswara and other temples. With flood water receding 40 days ago, the number of people visiting these temples increased. The stone pillars and images of deities are being exposed to the Sun.

The contractor, who is supposed to give facelift to the temples, is not to be seen. There is every danger of the temple getting submerged in 90 days if the River Krishna were to be in spate after the monsoon season. The Electricity department installed electric poles, but forgot to lay the cables. Therefore, the officials should hasten the renovation works and complete them within 90 days.
