Visakhapatnam: Along with Municipal Corporation and Colony Residents’ Welfare Associations, the citizens are also equally responsible for the maintenance of city beautification being done by spending crores of rupees as Vizag becoming a Smart City, felt Municipal Commissioner M Harinarayanan.

As a part of his regular field visits, Harinarayanan who paid a visit to Ward Nos. 34, 38 and 39 on Thursday, examined the maintenance of sanitation. Later, he gave suggestions to the officials with regard to the betterment of sanitation after visiting Meharbaba Colony, A S R Nagar, Sonia Gandhi Nagar, Washermen Colony, Jai Bharat Nagar and Girija Nagar areas.

Irked over the dumping of domestic garbage at the nearby vacant sites and public places, he asked the Public Health officials to serve notices to those damaging the city beauty and also to impose fines. Such indiscriminate dumping of garbage at public places may cause health problems and so the ordinary people also must feel the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness, he felt.

Later, Harinarayanan who examined the public toilets at the A S R Nagar in 38th Ward, asked the officials to see that it must be run round the clock. Taking a serious note against pasting of public notices, advertisements and other wall posters at all the junctions, he directed the officials to impose fines heavily after issuing notices as it was spoiling the image of the city.

While the AMOH Dr Murali Mohan was asked to take steps for clearing the total garbage choked at Girija Nagar within a week and to submit the compliance report, the Assistant City Planner Rajeswara Rao asked to send proposals for development of A S R Nagar. Municipal Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kumar and others accompanied the Commissioner.
