​Vijayawada: Girls surpassed boys in Intermediate exams with 69 per cent passperntage. Girl students outnumbered the boys in pass percentage in the Intermediate examinations 2017. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao released the Inter exam results here on Thursday. Boys ended up with 60 per cent pass percentage.

Of the total 2,17, 291 girls, who appeared for the second year exam, 1,74,083 were girls. Of 2.12 lakh boys, 1.56 lakh cleared the exam. Average pass percentage with girls and boys clubbed together registered at 77 per cent. Meanwhile, the success rate in Inter exams has been increasing in the state in the last three years since 2014-15.

For the academic year 2016-2017, the state achieved 77 per cent success on an average when compared to 74 per cent in 2015-16. In 2014-15, the state recorded 72 per cent pass percentage. During the last three years, the pass percentage has increased from 72 to 77 per cent. The success is attributed to the collective efforts of the students, staff, parents and the managements of the educational institutions, asserted the minister.

Malpractice cases also came down to 106 in 2016-17 from 274 in 2015-16, he added. “The Board of Intermediate has introduced biometric system of attendance at spot valuation camps across the 13 districts in the state due to which impersonation of examiners was checked and punctuality has been maintained,” said the B Udaya Lakshmi, the commissioner of the Board of Intermediate Examinations (BIE). Interacting with media after releasing the results, she said the results were released in a record time of 24 days after the exams.

A total of 9,18,436 Intermediate students attended examinations in 2016-17 academic year. Of them, 6,45,457 students passed.

In all, 8,79,688 students appeared in the academic year 2015-16, out of which 6,22, 234 of them passed. In 2014-15, a total of 8,65,428 students appeared for the examination and 5,81,728 candidates passed. Minister for Human Resources Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao expressed satisfaction over the increasing rate of success.
