Nellore: Director General of Police (DGP) N Sambasiva Rao formally commissioned Indian Coast Guard’s interceptor boat C-423 on Thursday at Krishnapatnam Port. The boat has been the 29th amongst the 36 in their series being built was commissioned. Speaking on the occasion, the DGP stressed on the need for coordination among all stakeholders in implementing coastal safety measures. He said the Police department is further strengthening the coastal security police shortly in its capabilities.

The interceptor boat has been designed and built indigenously by Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T) and the boat has an overall length of 27.80 metres with an endurance of 500 Nautical Miles (NM) and 20 knots of speed. ICGS C-423 is capable of undertaking multifarious tasks such as rescue of fishermen, medical evacuation, and coordinated operations with other sea-air units. The vehicle is fitted with the state-of-the-art communication, navigation equipment and 12.7 mm heavy machine gun onboard as a main weapon. Inspector General of Indian Coast Guards (East Region) Rajan Bargotra, DIG AK Harbola, Nellore SP Vishal Gunni, KPCL CEO Anil Yendluri and others were present.
