Visakhapatnam: Public Sector Undertakings and various political parties celebrated 126th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar here on Friday.At a programme organised at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Director Dr O R Nandagopan, Special Chief Secretary of West Bengal government P Ramesh Kumar and AU teacher Dr M V R Raju garlanded the portrait of Ambedkar and paid tributes.Dr Nandagopan emphasised the need that every person should have high moral values to set up a caste-less society which will be a real tribute to the great person.

West Bengal Special Chief Secretary Ramesh Kumar dwelt on how the research works of Ambedkar would help achieve socio-economic equality and focused on Ambedkar’s slogan ‘Educate-organise-agitate’ comparing to the present day situation. Later, Dr Nandagopan distributed sarees to poor women and Rs 10,000 as donation to the Manasu Girls Care Centre, Prahladapuram, on behalf of NSTL Seva Samithi.

He also distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. Senior Scientist Dr S M Bhave, committee president Y Appa Rao and leaders K Eswara Rao, Amarjeet, P Appaiah, Ch V S N Murty and Hemanth were also present.At a programme organised by the VPT SC, ST Officers and Employees’ Welfare Association at Convent Junction on Friday, Port Chairman M T Krishna Babu garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar and paid rich tributes.

Later, he described Ambedkar as a jurist, social reformer and a politician and above all, he was the Father of Indian Constitution. His efforts to eradicate social evils like untouchability and caste restrictions were remarkable adding that the VPT has been taking all welfare measures to live up to the expectations of Dr B R Ambedkar. Deputy Chairman P L Haranadh, Chief Vigilance Officer V S S Sreenivas, officials, staff and union leaders were present.

At another function organised by the Dredging Corporation of India Limited, the 126th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna B R Ambedkar was celebrated at the Dredge House. Director (Operations) M S Rao, Chief Vigilance Officer V V S Sreenivas and SC, ST Employees Union president N S Neelakanta Rao garlanded the portrait of Ambedkar and paid homage. The speakers appealed to the employees to rededicate themselves to the ideals of social justice and empowerment envisioned by great leader Ambedkar.

At a function organised by the city unit of BJP, local MLA P Vishnukumar Raju and city president M Nagendra garlanded the portrait of B R Ambedkar and paid rich tributes. The leaders said that the Centre has introduced many welfare programmes to uplift the poor and downtrodden under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The Indian Front party leader S U N Murty and other leaders garlanded the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at the LIC Square and paid rich tributes.
