Fishing holiday for 61 days begins

​Visakhapatnam: Fishing holiday for 61 days in entire east coast began from midnight of Friday. The enhanced conservation period launched from last year was to increase the marine production, which has been dwindling since last five years.

The district has 2,500 mechanised boats and trawlers and of them 670 are catamarans. These catamarans or country boats are exempted from the ban.

Last month 80 per cent of the mechanised boats remained stranded in the fishing harbour as there was no promising catch in the ocean.
