Kakinada: The promotion of solar power for floriculture which picked up momentum in East Godavari in recent times and is said to boost further, since 200 nurseries at Kadiyam in the district were provided with solar pump sets of 5 HP capacities, on subsidy.

Of the total cost of 3.69 lakh incurred, Rs 1.62 lakh subsidy was provided and AP Transco on its part extended Rs 1.52 lakh and the farmers had to shell out the rest of Rs 55,000. The pump sets with a capacity of pumping water from 200 feet from ground level were installed in the entire Kadiyam nurseries region.

According to farmers, they are able to save Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 at an average per month pm power bills in the last few months after tiling the solar pump started. Kadiyam Nurseries Association president Pulla Anjaneyulu said of the total 200 pump sets, the working of 180 sets would be catering to the needs. The working of remaining 20 is not up to the requirements of farmers.

“We brought to the notice of the NREDCAP the suppliers about the technical issues involved in the working of these 20 pump sets of 5 Hp capacity,” he added. When contacted, East Godavari NREDCAP district manager G Satyanarayana said that the issue of technical problems in these 20 sets has been brought to the notice of the supply company. The company engineers will be attending to the needs the manger clarified.
