Kurnool: Irrigation department official’s apathy was evident during a meeting held by the Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy on Sunday. The deputy CM along with Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya held a review meeting with irrigation officials and political leaders on drinking water problems prevailing in the district. During the meeting the officials failed to answer the questions asked by the political leaders.

With the failure of the officials, district collector Ch Vijay Mohan at the peak of his voice warned them that he will send them to their house if their attitude was not mended. Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya bringing to the notice of the collector said a sarpanch of Kothapalli has stopped water supply to several colonies though the water belongs to gram panchyat.

Another MLA Budda Raja Sekhar Reddy also said some private persons are enjoying the bore well that were dug by the government and that property purely belongs to government. Kodumur MLA M Mani Gandhi said Panchalingala, Tandrapadu, Gondiparla, Pula Thota and other river bed villagers are suffering with drinking water problem due to negligence by RWS staff.

Rajya Sabha MP TG Venkatesh wanted the government staff to take permanent steps to resolve drinking water problems. Yammiganur MLA BV Jayanageswara Reddy also lamented that there is very acute water problem at Yammiganur segments but no official is interested to pay heed to the people grievances.

Reacting over the allegations made by the concerned political leaders, collector sought clarification with the concerned officials. Of not finding relevant answers from the officials, he grew furious and warned them their negligent behaviour will cost their job if it continues any further.

Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy said that the district is reeling under severe water crisis. It is the first time in decades that the water in Sunkesula Barrage has totally dried up. Officials should ensure alternative resources to mitigate the drinking water problems of the people.

He expressed strong dissatisfaction over the absence of Chief Engineer at the meeting.To mitigate the water problems officials have to plunge into action. He ordered the officials to immediate solve the issues and should visit field daily to know the water crisis in the rural.Former ministers Erasu Pratap Reddy, KE Prabhakar, ZP Chairman M Rajasekar, Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy and former MLAs participated in the meeting.
