Fight against oppression, leaders tell cadre at POW meet

Visakhapatnam: Leaders of several women organisations gave a call to fight against the oppression against women, at the Pragathiseela Mahila Sangam (POW) 6th general body meeting held at Subbalaxmi Kalyan Mandapam, here on Sunday.
Around 350 delegates from 9 districts attended the meeting, which was swelled with college students and workers.

R Ganga Bhavani President of POW launched the rally from Vizag railway station to RTC complex and later hoisted the flag. In her opening address she said it was intellectual strength of the women that needed to be exploited and not physical features.
Well known journalist Rana Ayyub came down heavily on the oppressive measures of the NDA government.

She said Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched populist slogans like ‘Beti bachavo’ and ‘Beti padavo’ but in reality the exploitation and sexual violence has increased ever since BJP government came to power.In the name of Gaai (cow) bachavoo, people were being lynched in the public in many BJP-ruled states. Narrating her book ‘Gujarat Files’, she explained how she conducted sting operations and found senior government officials and political leaders were involved in the Gujarat riots.

Noted author B Vijaya Bharathi spoke on women exploitation and the gender biased policies of the successive governments.
POW Telangana president, G Jhansi, general secretary Chandra Aruna, Punjab Pragathisheela Jagaran Manch Aman president Charan Jyothi Kaur and others spoke on the occasion.On this occasion, K Sandhya former president of POW inaugurated exhibition of books at the venue.
