Visakhapatnam: Health minister Kamineni Srinivas said lack of adequate transportation facilities and roads have been affecting the health services in the Agency areas.

The Health minister along with Roads and Buildings minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, Child and Women Welfare minister Paritala Sunita, Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Poonam Malakondiah and project officers of eight ITDAs participated in a review meeting over the health conditions in the Agency areas of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Kurnool, Guntur and Prakasam districts here at the District Collectorate.

They reviewed on maternal and infants deaths and anaemia among women. Speaking on the occasion, the health minister said lack of nutritious diet has been resulting in deaths of pregnant women and neonates in the Agency area. He said that out of total 18 lakh tribal population, about 6 lakh fall under Paderu revenue division. He also said specialist doctors with high salaries will be appointed in the Agency area under the National Health Mission.

“The government will also set up a Sick Newborn Care unit in every Community Health Centres and convert some Primary Health Centres into 24x7 institutions to offer better medical services. Plans are afoot to introduce bike ambulances to those hamlets, which are inaccessible due to lack of proper roads. The hospital in Rampachodavaram will be upgraded into a 100-bed hospital,” he said.

Roads and Buildings minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu said they will lay roads to all the hamlets in the Agency area in a phased manner. MLC PVN Madhav, Women and Family Welfare Secretary Udaya Lakshmi, joint collector G Srujana, ITDA project directors, District Medical and Health Officers and ICDS officers from all the 8 districts participated in the meeting.
