Chittoor: Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association’s district president K Priya demanded that the state government should pay salaries on time to Anganwadi workers and helpers. Hundreds of Anganwadi and helpers staged a dharna at the Collectorate here on Monday, alleging that their salaries were kept pending for the last six months.

Addressing the gathering, Priya slammed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for showing indifferent attitude towards Anganwadi workers and helpers. She said that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had hiked the salaries of Anganwadi workers and helpers while Chandrababu is not at all interested to protect the interests of the AP Anganwadi workers and helpers.

In response to the earlier agitations, the government promised that it would remit the salaries of the Anganwadi workers and helpers on time, she added. The district leader stated that Anganwadis have made all efforts to bring their problems to the notice of the government in a peaceful manner for the last six months.

“But, the ruling government failed to resolve our salary issue,” she said. Later, the leaders submitted a memorandum to the DRO. Braving hot sun, Anganwadi workers and helpers staged a protest at the Collectorate. Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association’s district vice-president Chinna Yellappa and others leaders were present.
