Visakhapatnam: Opposing closure of government schools on the pretext of rationalization, the YSR Students’ Union staged a sit-in protest in front of the DEO office here on Monday demanding the government to roll back its proposal. Speaking at the protest, union State general secretary B Kantha Rao alleged that the government which has failed in providing minimum basic amenities in schools, is now trying to replace the present three-tier education system to two-tier system citing the student strength which is nothing but violation of Right to Education Act.

The new rationalisation system would not only benefit the corporate schools but the dropout rate would also be increased. He also demanded the government to provide basic amenities in all government schools, distribute books and uniforms to children immediately after re-opening of schools, to continue Telugu medium along with English medium in municipal schools, to fill-in all vacant teacher posts and to cancel permission of Corporate schools violating norms. Later, the leaders submitted a representation.
