Vijayawada: Irate drivers and cleaners of Kesineni travels held demonstration at Kesineni Bhavan, office of Vijayawada (Telugu Desam Party) MP Kesineni Srinivas, here on Monday demanding payment of pending salaries. The protest created a bit of commotion at MP office as office staff tried to forceful vacation of agitators from the office premises with the help of police. Above 100 employees, who native of Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore cities participated in the protest.

They continued the protest at old bus station near MP office till the evening. The protesters alleged that Kesineni travels closed the travel business all of sudden in March and did not pay pending salaries of around Rs 2 crore. A protester, M Rajesh, said the management had given assurance to the drivers and cleaners to pay pending wages by April 15 but it was not fulfilled.

“The staff of MP office told us that the MP has been to Delhi and the matter will be taken to his notice after his return to Vijayawada. They scolded us for asking our salaries to pay” he said. The travel agency did not pay salaries properly for the last 10 months and they depended on daily allowances to lead their families, he said.“We did not imagine the overnight closure of travel agency. The MP closed the business without any prior intimation allowing us to search another job for our livelihood” he lamented.

T Satyanarayana of Visakhapatnam said 400 drivers and cleaners had worked in Kesineni travels and almost all staff lost their livelihood. “The management is spreading lies of providing three months salaries in advance to staff. In fact, several drivers and cleaners have to be paid salaries for around 10 months” he alleged. “We did not imagine such a betrayal from the elite person” lamented Ch Srinu of Nandigama of Krishna district. The staff said they would not hesitate to lose their lives but continue the protest till they would be paid wages. They said they will continue protest on Tuesday too.
