MLA P G V R Naidu (Gana Babu) and civic chief M Harinarayanan lauded the initiative of HPCL Visakh Refinery for taking up the construction of major drain to help clear the passage of rain water from Atchemnaidu Colony to HPCL covering Prakashnagar, Malkapuram and Gandhiji Street at an estimated cost of Rs 31.14 crore to be spent from its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative funds.

Visakhapatnam: MLA P G V R Naidu (Gana Babu) and civic chief M Harinarayanan lauded the initiative of HPCL Visakh Refinery for taking up the construction of major drain to help clear the passage of rain water from Atchemnaidu Colony to HPCL covering Prakashnagar, Malkapuram and Gandhiji Street at an estimated cost of Rs 31.14 crore to be spent from its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative funds.

After laying the foundation stone here on Tuesday, the MLA said that the HPCL authorities came forward to build the drain to overcome the inundation of low-lying areas in the rainy season. He also appreciated the HPCL management for sanctioning a sum of Rs 5 crore for developing the Municipal High School at Malkapuram into a Model School.

He appealed to executive director Prasad Sarma to take up the second phase of renovation work of Gollalapalem Gedda which needs nearly Rs 38 crore. Complimenting the initiative of Visakh Refinery executive director G S V S S S Prasad Sarma, Municipal Commissioner Harinarayanan felt that this major drain would give relief to low-lying areas as it would regulate the rain water. He thanked the management for sanctioning Rs 5 crore for observing the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Responding to the gesture, executive director Prasad Sarma said that Visakha people are patronising the refinery management since beginning and the Central government’s proposed expansion of the Visakh Refinery with Rs 21,000 crore. He said that proposals would be submitted to the government to take up second phase of regularisation work on Gollalapalem Gedda.

Municipal chief engineer Dr B Jayarami Reddy, superintendenting engineer Venkateswara Rao, zonal commissioner Ramana Murty and Visakh Refinery officials U S Sarma, A S V Ramanan, B Balagangadharam, Y Srirama Murty V Ratnaraj were also present.
