Visakhapatnam: There was a poor response for the APEdCET-2017 to be conducted online for the first time across the state by Andhra University on April 19 from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm as the number of applications have not touched even one fifth of the total number of seats available in the state.

Many academicians attribute the poor response to the government’s decision of making B Ed course to two years from last year and lack of teacher recruitments by the government. Moreover, the government has also passed a rule that the B Ed trained teachers will be recruited for high schools only which is also one of the reasons for the poor response.EdCET-2017 Convener Prof R Ranganathan informed here on Tuesday that they have received 8,785 applications against the availability of 45,068 B Ed seats in the State in 508 colleges.

He said necessary arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the test at 32 centres in 16 cities in the State. Coming to the methodology-wise receipt of applications, Social Studies topped all methodologies with 3,430 applications followed by mathematics 2,121 applications, biological science with 1,787,physical science 952 and English 495.
