Before flagging off the Old Town Heritage Walk from Town Hall in the Old City here on Tuesday to mark the World Heritage Day, the MLA said Visakha district has not only heritage edifices, but also has geo-heritage sites and its history should be protected.

Visakhapatnam: Local MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar underscored the need for protecting Vizag heritage for future generations. Before flagging off the Old Town Heritage Walk from Town Hall in the Old City here on Tuesday to mark the World Heritage Day, the MLA said Visakha district has not only heritage edifices, but also has geo-heritage sites and its history should be protected.

The Heritage Walk, which covered Kurupam Market, European Cemetery, Queen Victoria’s Pavilion, St John’s Church, Queen Mary’s High School for Girls, Ishak Madina Dargah and St Alosius School areas, ended at the Old Town Light House. Additional joint collector D V Reddy, Zilla Parishad CEO Jayaprakash Narayan, district officials, officials of police and fire wing and representatives of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Sohan Hattamgandi and Jaya Sri also participated.
