Amaravati: The final rites of former minister and TDP leader Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru) were performed with full state honours at his own agricultural field at Gunadala here on Tuesday.

Large number of followers of Nehru and TDP activists and leaders attended the funeral and they paid their last respects to the departed soul.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also attended the last rites of Devineni Rajasekhar and consoled his family members.

Earlier, the body of Rajasekhar was taken in a procession from his residence to nearby agriculture field. The followers of Nehru raised slogans hailing their leader as ‘Tiger in Krishna district politics’.

There was traffic jam at Karl Marx road following the procession. Devineni Avinash, son of Devineni Nehru, performed the last rites of his father. His uncle and Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao and several other family members were present.

The followers of Nehru also raised slogans by requesting the CM to take care of political future of Devineni Avinash following the wishes of his father Devineni Nehru.

Earlier, a host of leaders and activists visited Nehru’s house at Gunadala and paid their respects to him. Mayor Koneru Sridhar, TDP state president Kala Venkata Rao, Deputy Speaker Mandali Budda Prasad, former Union Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, former ministers Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao, K Pardhasaradhi, Gadde Babu Rao, film actor M Mohan Babu and his family members, comedian Venu Madhav,

MP Kesineni Srinivas, senior TDP leaders Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy, KP Reddaiah, Amaravati Development Corporation chairman Lakshmi Pardhasaradhi Bhaskar, several ministers, MPs, MLAs and corporators paid their last respects to Nehru and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
