Rajamahendravaram: Women were advised to make use of special acts and laws that were provided in the Constitution to protect them from different evils of the society by Kandregula Neelima, Junior Civil Judge, Rajamahendravaram.
Addressing a one-day workshop on women’s laws and acts, arranged by Rajamahendravaram Women Committee, Urban police and SHE teams on Tuesday, she said there were several laws to protect women from dowry harassment, domestic violence and sex discrimination.

She said the primary duty of the women is to be aware of these laws and special acts in the constitution. She mentioned that this type of workshops would help common women to understand the laws and rights. Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai said the Indian Constitution has given special place to women and for their protection and it is the duty of everyone to understand and follow it. Dr N Ramana Chowdary, president of the Women Committee presided over the meeting.

AP Bar Council member and Rajamahendravaram Bar Association president Muppalla Subbarao said though there are several laws and acts, they are confined only to books and are hardly implemented. Campaigns against sex determination test, ragging, eve-teasing, accepting dowry and other evils should taken up, she added.Urban SP B Rajakumari said they have arranged this meeting to highlight the acts and how deterrent the punishment would be. Women Committee secretary Sunkavalli Sarada, members Dwara Parwati Sundari, A Bhagyalakshmi, P Lakshmi Srinivas and others were present.
