Chittoor: Industries Minister N Amarnath Reddy said that the state government had introduced several welfare schemes for women. The Minister participated in a function held at PVKN Government Degree College here on Wednesday. He distributed cycles to ninth class studying girls in government, aided and municipal schools. He urged parents to educate girl children. The Minister stated that the Chief Minister is committed to women empowerment in the state.

Reddy directed the officials of the Education department to ensure no dropouts among girls studying ninth and tenth classes. He mentioned that female literacy rate has crossed 64 per cent in the district as against the state average of 59.15 per cent. So far, 16,722 cycles were distributed to the girl students in the district, he added. Earlier, the Minister has participated at an inaugural function of NTR Sujala Sravanthi scheme at Cherlopalli village in Chittoor mandal.

ZP Chairperson Girvani Chandra Prakash, MLA D A Satyaprabha, TDP district president G Srinivasulu, city Mayor K Hemalatha, MLC B N Rajasimhulu and others were present. District Educational Officer Samuel enlisted the progress of education in the district.
