Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is earmarking five acres land to Jindal Urban Waste Management Visakhapatnam Limited at Kapuluppada dumping yard site for producing power from the garbage.


As a part of its initiative, Municipal Commissioner M Harinarayanan, along with Zonal Commissioner Satyaveni, chief engineer Dr B Jayarami Reddy, superintending engineers Venkateswara Rao, Venugopal, chief medical officer of public health Dr A Hemanth, DCP Suresh Kumar and ACP Sanjeeva Kumar paid a visit to Kapuluppada dumping yard here on Thursday.


After discussing all issues with the officials and the representatives of Jindal company, Harinarayanan asked the officials of engineering, town planning and survey wing to demark the five-acre land to Jindal in two-three days. The Jindal company representatives told the commissioner that the construction of compound wall and a photo cabin should be taken up immediately soon after the demarcation of the site and it will take 18 months to complete the entire project that produce power from the garbage.

Later, the commissioner inspected the renovation and beautification works at Yendada farm tank and directed the officials to complete the work in two months. When he visited Midhilapuri Housing Colony, the residents complained of drainage problem for which the former assured that the problem would be looked into. He appealed to the members of local Residents’ Welfare Associations to participate in the Swachh Bharat initiative. He assured the residents of Old Madhuravada that the burial ground would be developed.
