Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad has expressed concern over the lethargy of administration in implementing the provisions of the CRDA Act in letter and spirit and felt that it may destroy the dream of the people of Andhra Pradesh to have a beautiful capital city on the lines of Singapore.

Justice Challa Kodandaram on Thursday directed the Chief Executive Officer of the CRDA and also its director to be present in the Court on April 27 at 4 pm to explain to the court the reasons for the very high number of cases being filed by individual houseowners in the capital region.

The judge was dealing with a batch of petitions filed by residents and owners of the capital region in Krishna district who were complaining to the court about the attempts of CRDA officials to demolish their houses citing illegalities in constructions.

PSP Suresh Kumar, the counsel for a few of the petitioners, told the court that the CRDA was not responding to the petitioners applications before it for grant of permission to construct three or four storyed buildings in the CRDA area. The gram panchayats are entitled to grant permissions only up to two floors. Beyond that it is under the purview of CRDA.

But the CRDA is just sitting on the applications and resorting to demolition citing illegalities. The counsel submitted to the court that when there was no reply from the authorities, it would be deemed as permission and therefore the demolitions are unlawful.

The judge commented that there was complacency at the field level staff and lack of efficiency in the administrators which is resulting in huge number of cases. He directed the CEO and Director of CRDA to be present in the Court on April 27 and clarify on these issues.
